This one-man-project from Tomsk started in 2001 with the experiments with noise and dark ambient. Soon the first demo "Chaos Of Noise And Silence" was released. Later on the experiments with the voice as a musical instrument were added. As a result the album "Irkala" came out. It was based on the myths of Selkups, a scanty Siberian folk.
In 2004 the Ural association "Ostroga" released "Ostroga: various", a collection of materials comprising drawings, poetry, interviews, reviews of sound records and printed issues and the CD-R supplement where Aeterna Anima stands in the same track list with such projects as Troum, Lunar Abyss Deus Organum, Eonic, Misery, Kromeshna, Closing the Eternity. The track included in our compilation is taken from the album "Maha Panchatattva" 2005, that was inspired by the Vedic culture. This album is a mixture of darkwave, ritual industrial, dark ambient and IDM and it sounds very different in contrast with the previous releases. http://aeterna-anima.narod.ru/ ANNO DOMINI
The band was founded in autumn 2003 by two sisters - Olga (piano, vocals) and Alexandra (violin). Later Dina Dartz joined Anno Domini on guitars and the original sound typical of the band began to develop. Soon cello and drums were added. The band has been playing with the current line-up since February 2005.
Anno Domini consists of very different people and that tell on their music. Therefore it's difficult to define the style of the band. Moreover, the band members agree with the idea that we live in the time when the style is dead. This crisis worldview is reflected in the music they make. But nevertheless critics say that Anno Domini is acoustic ethereal\neo-classic with romantic dark-folk hints and exquisite lyrics in Russian. In 2005 in Petrozavodsk Anno Domini recorded a demo consisting of 3 tracks one of which is included in our compilation. Currently the band is working at its debut album. Contact: ANTISISTERS
Antisisters is one of the eldest darkwave bands from Moscow. In spite of the long biography Antisisters is still an underground band that is deliberately avoided by the musical press. The members hide their faces on band photos and you can see their real faces only on concerts that are very rare. They don't pay much attention to the quality of their records as they try to emphasize their post-punk roots. Instead the energetics of the music is at the top level. Beginning with industrial post-punk, close to Killing Joke and Joy Division, the band evolved into modern electro-goth and even shared the stage with Project Pitchfork when the latter performed in Russia.
The latest album "UNZ!" that can be translated from German as "Our new time" is another step for Antisisters to a wider audience. The second volume of the Colours of Black compilation includes the newest exclusive track of this great underground band. http://www.antisisters.com/ BLOOD TRANSFUSION SET
Substance, Phantom Bertha, Missionaries from the Outside, Digital Phantom… Each of these bands and projects owes its existence to the previous one. And this long line eventually leads to Blood Transfusion Set, the latest project of Sergey Laskin.
Sergey Laskin, a philosopher and an incorrigible pessimist, is a contradictory figure of St. Petersburg underground. He is famous as a frontman of Missionaries from the Outside, one of the first Russian gothic-rock bands. Digital Phantom, an experimental electro-goth project, has transformed into a cyber-aesthetic duo playing aggressive gothic electro and EBM. So that was the beginning of Blood Transfusion Set! The debut LP album will be released at Advoxya records in 2006. Contact: CANONIS & EMILY A SAAEN
This is the first composition of CANONIS written after "The Aquarelle". It has kept the feelings with which the legendary tape was filled. EMILY A. SAAEN has played a major role in the destiny of the draft that was lying on the shelf for several years. It seems that this song was waiting for her, as many songs were written and the line up of the project had changed so often. Penetrating vocal, high-minded in its simplicity, vivid and sensible poetry, keen understanding of composition and sound - EMILY A. SAAEN brought to CANONIS not only the singer, but also a muse and a co-author. The track did not come easy, being conceived at first as symphonic. It was edgy and affected in a strange and inconceivable way the lives of all three musicians. Probably, that's why the song "Apple of Discord", written in troubled time and being extremely personal for every one involved, became their brightest creation to this day.
http://www.canonis.com/ http://www.emilysaaen.ru/ CHILDREN OF THE GUN
Though this gothic rock band from Moscow is pretty old it still belongs to the underground scene. It gives rare but very bright concerts. Those who come to see the band performing live are rewarded with the unrestrained drive of fine gothic rock of the distant eighties. Recently a live drummer joined COTG (replacing the drum-machine) and the sound has become even more thick and original.
Unfortunately, the band doesn't have qualitative records, but soon it will rectify the situation as the band members, despite the fact that they are involved in different side-projects, have started working at the debut album at last. As a matter of fact our compilation includes the first track of COTG recorded in the studio and available for a wide audience. http://childrenofthegun.nm.ru/ CISFINITUM & VLADIMIR EPIFANTSEV
Cisfinitum is one of the most remarkable Russian post industrial projects. It was started in Moscow in the late nineties. "The main implication of the music of Cisfinitum is to make Cosmos and Chaos of the mysterious Russian audible." - that's the aspiration of Eugene Voronovsky, Cisfinitum's leader and inspirer, who learned harmony of sounds in music conservatory.
Cisfinitum's psychoacoustic experiments are fixed on CDs and other media that were issued by such labels as Monochrome Vision, Waystyx, Ewers Tonkunst, Insofar Vapour Bulk. Also there was a series of reissues (including a limited split-edition with Bad Sector) by Drone Records, Coldlands and Entity. The project performed live in various parts of the world. It shared the stage with such famous artists as Troum, Rapoon, Bad sector, Raison d'Etre, Francisco Lopez. Cisfinitum took part in many international festivals of industrial music. The composition included in our compilation is a fragment of the original soundtrack to Vladimir Epifantsev's play called "Mayakovsky" (2000). Contact: cisfinitum@mail.ru COLD DESIGN
This trio from Voronezh was founded by former members of metal bands in 2005. It could have passed unnoticed among a great number of similar projects but for two things. The first one is the frontman's boundless charisma and his passion for mysticism, in particular, the study of the influence of supernatural forces on man's everyday life, which has found its way in expressive lyrics and, beyond all doubts, has told on project's history. The second and the main thing is that in contrast to the majority of bands with a similar past which have turned to ambient or gothic metal, COLD DESIGN has chosen an exciting inflammatory electro-goth with no metal hues. Our compilation includes one of the tracks by "the new stars of gothic electronics".
http://myspace.com/colddesignband/ DASHA BASKAKOVA & LAUREN VORSE
This Franco-Russian musical alliance consists of Dasha Baskakova, born in Ulan Ude, and Lauren Vorse, an electro-wizard from France. Their joint album almost enchanted foreign audience in 2004.
Dasha and Lauren play a very cold dark-trip-wave with elegant and sometimes unexpected changes in structure, barely perceptible tribal hints and a muxture of progressive electronics. Their dark and icy compositions are full of something intangible and unknown and can create a very tense atmosphere whereas the music of this style is supposed to be calm and relaxing. All compositions are in Russian which only intensifies the atmosphere of mystery. Dasha's brilliant vocal skills were once compared with that of Grace Jones and even Nina Hagen. Our compilation includes the track from the first self-released album by Dasha Baskakova & Lauren Vorse. Contact: DECEMBERED
Decembered appeared during in the end of December 2004 - the beginning of January 2005. It was the thaw-time: puddles from melted snow where one could see reflections of clouds tattered by the warm wind, disturbing hum of the city, rare jingle of night streets stunned by the stream of warmth, heart-rending cries of demented birds singing in praise of sudden spring… The spirit of that time became inspiration for the new project. A chaotic set of sounds, embryos of melody conceived under cold fingers… Soon melodies became sensible and three voices were added. Now Decembered is an experimental trio that stands beyond bounds of musical styles.
Currently the project is working on Rex Tremendae, the third part of the musical cycle "Missa Pro Defunctis" (Mass for the Dead). The cycle is based on the canonical text of the Catholic mass for the dead most often unofficially called Missa Pro Defunctis or Requiem, as the text starts with this word (Requiem Aeternum Dona eis, Domine). http://myspace.com/decembered/ DEVUSHKIN SON
Devushkin Son (Damsel's Dream) was founded in Kurgan in 1993. Having recorded two albums the band moved to Moscow where it became unexpectedly one of the favourites for metropolitan goths. At that time the music of the band was a captivating mixture of trip-hop, dark wave, gothic and even guitar alternative. Obviously Devushkin Son took part in Edge of the Night, the first Russian dark scene compilation, and the band became referred to as a pioneer of Russian dark trip wave that could be easily put in the same line with Hungry Lucy or Switchblade Symphony.
Year 2001 was a calm before the storm. The band appeared again with a refreshed line-up, new material and sound combining trip-hop, dark wave and synth gothic. Our compilation includes one of the tracks from the new unreleased album "Bystrye Sny" ("Rapid Eye Movements"). http://www.dev-son.rinet.ru/ DODECCAHEEDRON
Dodeccaheedron was started in 1998 as a dance electronic project. Soon it became mature enough to play something more alive, harmonic and saturating. The music of Archon Satani was the impulse for Dodeccaheedron. But it doesn't mean that one should draw a parallel between these two projects.
The music of Dodeccaheedron is the reflection of the inner state of its founder who is inspired by the industrial culture: not exactly by the music but by forsaken and forgotten industrial places… The words of the artist himself explain everything: "When mankind disappears in the mists of time rusty frameworks of factories and concrete blocks of garages will remain intact on the surface of the planet covered by the dismal gray sky. I'll be the anxious wind walking on the roofs, going through antennas that have pierced the sky. I'll sweep down through broken glasses into the heart of a desolate boiler-house. When the world comes to an end I'll remain in its silent cry frozen in factory pipes, atomic pile, damp cellars and decrepit buildings." http://www.dodec.narod.ru/ DOPPELGANGER
Since participation in the first volume of Colours of Black Doppelganger has consolidated its positions on the Russian gothic scene. In the beginning of 2005 the band released "Dancing", a very successful classic gothic-rock album. After it the press called Doppelganger the first Russian band that began to play a real gothic rock. Though, that band didn't stop on that and on subsequent live performances the image and sound of the band changed even more to the roots of Goth. Thus, those who visited Doppelganger's concerts could enjoy death rock\batcave played live.
During 2005 and the beginning of 2006 the band gave a lot of concerts, collaborated with several foreign gothic-rock bands and began working at a new material. The line-up and sound of the band was also changing during this time. The new exclusive track included in our compilation shows what's Doppelganger today. http://www.doppelganger.ru/ FLAMMENFORM_36
Flammenform_36 is a side-project of Plexx, a programmer from the band Bog~Morok. It was founded in 2005 when Plexx understood that his ideas could not be fully realized in the main band.
The music of FF_36 constitutes various electronic and gothic elements. This one-man-project shocks the listener with noise, thick and rough guitar sound, confusing synthetic beats and deep charismatic gothic vocals. The lyrics are based on the founder's life experience, ideology and attitude to reality. In spite of the music being harsh it is very personal and can tell a lot about its maker as a musician. Participation in Colours of Black is the first step for the project to a wider audience. Contact: flammenform36@yahoo.com INTERACTION 5
This project from Moscow was founded not so long ago, in 2003. But from the very beginning its development was very intense and dynamic. Interaction 5 gave concerts almost every weekend. The band performed live in various clubs of St. Petersburg and Moscow in front of a very heterogeneous audience. "Industrial meetings", the theatre "Satarial" performances, gothic and synthpop parties, folklore concerts… Naturally, the attitude of the audience was different: some loved them, some hated them and some just ignored them.
Because of the lack of time there were no rehearsals and all the music was composed and played on the spot. When the debut album was almost recorded the band had to stop working at it as the front-man left for the South Pole. Interaction 5 released no tracks of their own, but there are several cover-versions and remixes on them by other artists. Our compilation includes one of them. http://www.i5.by.ru/ KALTERGLANZ
Katlerglanz was founded in 2004 after the break-up of once famous band SAINT'S EVERLASTING REST by the keyboard player and composer Igor Kaverin. The band started experimenting with electronics combining it with live instruments. In the end of 2004 the band performed live in several Moscow clubs, so the audience could appreciate the band's art of experimentation.
In 2005 the singer Ekaterina left the band and the new vocalist, famous under the name of "Flo", was invited. As a result the 16-minute demo "Last instructions of operating" was recorded. The music became more industrial. The lyrics of the band reflect emotions of a man who lives through total urbanization of society and industrial accidents, a weak and helpless man who tries to survive trials of civilization. Contact: kalterglanz@mail.ru LACKLUSTRE MIRROR
Lacklustre Mirror appeared as the project of b. (keyboardist of Children Of The Gun). Later the one-man-project has turned into a band. The band has recorded two full-length albums. In turn, there are two variants of one of the albums and it's absolutely justified as the old material was rerecorded with many new ideas brought in. Despite the fact that the band, as the musicians claim, plays "an eclectic mixture of art-rock, ethereal, darkwave and dark-rock with the plentiful use of symphonic elements and dark ambient electronics" the music is rather holistic and harmonic. A combination of European standards and Russian romanticism, tragedy and sensuality, harmony and beauty, sincere earnestness, conceptuality and elaboration makes the sound of the band unique. The track included in our compilation is taken from the debut album "Tyomnaya Voda" ("Dark Water"). The lyrics on the track are by the famous Russian poet Alexander Blok.
http://lacklustre.ath.cx MAJDANEK WALTZ
Majdanek Waltz's participation in the first volume of Colours of Black and its performance at the presentation of the compilation allowed a lot of industrial and dark-folk fans to get to know this remarkable band. Since that time the sound of Majdanek Waltz has considerably changed and become more classical. The band recorded several albums and gave many concerts in the native town as well as in Moscow and St. Petersburg. It became one of the most famous bands of Russian dark/neo-folk scene. Still the general mood of Majdanek Waltz and its apprehensibility remains the same. The atmosphere of the music is dismal, the circle of its audience is exclusive, the band's records are taken ambiguously by critics. The track included in the second volume of Colours of Black allows the listener to learn where the band stands now.
http://majdanekwaltz.woods.ru/ MAGIK BRITE
This project was founded in 2005 by two Moscow musicians with the nicks Weird and Spirit. At the very beginning Magik Brite was patronized by the famous DJ Hellen (Russian Gothic Project). The band recorded its first demo and gave its first concert. The debut was a success: the band received a lot of positive comments from various dark scene fans. No wonder: the band plays an astounding crossover of EBM and synth with aggressive guitars and lush growling. The band performs with humour, energy and great skill. It all makes us hope that Magik Brite will soon take up their own niche on the Russian dark scene.
Our compilation includes the track from the debut demo "Urban Dancer" 2005. http://magik-brite.narod.ru/ MOON FAR AWAY
Moon Far Away is one of the first Russian bands that became a legend of the Russian gothic scene. At the beginning MFA was compared with some foreign artists but in course of time the music of the band became more and more original. The latest album that was released at two labels at the same time - Prikosnovenie (France) and Shadowplay (Russia) - is a proof of the fact that the band is recognized at the global level. Its uniqueness is not the matter of style (as the music is of various styles: ambient, neofolk, etheral, darkwave, neoclassic, ritual folk) or a certain structure of compositions. It's the matter of a peculiar sense of beauty and its own character that can be recognized in every MFA's work. The exclusive track included in our compilation is the result of band's experimenting with wind instruments that it never used before.
http://dark.gothic.ru/mfa N-616 & REQUIEM FOR FM
Perhaps, there's no need to introduce Requiem for FM, a new synth-project from Moscow that made its debut on the first volume of Colours of Black. The debut single immediately sold out, a very successful full-length album with a more modern sound, lots of concerts and fruitful collaboration with Russian and foreign bands - all of these are the evidence of a breakthrough.
The duo N-616 from Stavropol is not so famous yet. Beginning with harsh EBM/power electronics the band made its sound lighter and started playing future pop in 2005. The self-produced album "Futurepolis" 2005 was full of beautiful melodies and dance hits and had only one small minus - it contained no vocals. The vocalist of Requiem for FM eliminates this minus: our compilation includes the track that is the result of collaboration between Requiem for FM and N-616. The listener has a great opportunity to get acquainted with the music of these two remarkable bands taken in one flask. http://616.stillclouds.com/ http://www.requiem-for-rm.ru/ NECRO STELLAR
The veterans of Russian darkwave Necro Stellar, shocking and extravagant occultists, are quite popular among the Russian audience. As well as among the foreign one: their previous album "Saturating Cemetary" received a warm feedback from European and American goths. Mick Mercer put it in the list of the best albums of 2005. Such influential magazines as Zillo, Orkus and Gothic Beauty gave it very positive reviews. The reason for band's success is its unique sound that can be characterized as VouDoo Electro.
Yury Zvezdny, the leader of the project, is famous for his works with analog sound. Together with the other band members he terrifies the listener with a mixture of EBM, dark electro and ambient based on the sound of old Soviet analog synthesizers added with lots of industrial samples, sounds of a scythe and tribal percussion of human bones… Once the band collaborated with many famous Russian electronic artists, now they work together with Attrition, pioneers of British electronics, Unwoman, an American diva, and Angel Theory from Australia. "Only Moon" is an exclusive track recorded specially for Colours of Black. It offers the listener a new portion of band's experiments. http://www.necrostellar.com/ ON-MOY
ON - MOY (He's Mine) - a simple formula for schoolchildren to ease the determination of word's gender in Russian. ON-MOY is a trio of cynical idealists from St. Petersburg that is inspired by a controversial combination of the exalted and the mean. Love turning in soft-porno, solitude, violence, fear. Mortal youth. Metropolis. Hunger. Glass, concrete and metal, tenderness and pain, passion and thirst...
The band was founded in 1997 by former members of local punk bands that drew their inspiration from neo-romanticism, electro, punk, glam, futurism, symbolism and abstractionism. The new band began playing a mixture of post-punk, industrial and trip-hop. In 2000 ON-MOY gave its first concerts. In 2001 the band changed its line-up and recorded its first demo. In 2002 ON-MOY turned to electropop; guitars were replaced by keyboards. Then the band performed live in different clubs in front of a heterogeneous audience. As a result, ON-MOY became friends with goths, punks, electronic experimentalists and sound-poets at the same time. http://www.onmoy.nm.ru/ PURPLE FOR SIDE
Purple Fog Side can be with confidence called the pioneers of Russian darkwave. The project has two releases, several single and remixes. It so happened that PFS became popular first abroad and only then in Russia. The project was started in 1996 when Pavel Zolin (Justice), the founder and only constant member, recorded several instrumentals and placed them in the Internet.
In spite of various experiments the music is still about the same things: solitude, despair, sufferings within the vicious circle of social dogmas. PFS combines melancholy with aggression. Its deep sound deliverance of the escapist crisis of soul excites emotional perception. There are two things typical of the project - experimental electo and bright motives that are sometimes close to symphonism. Now band's ideas are shaped into something more simple and apprehensible. Still having gone through postmodernism with its eclecticism PFS retains its originality. Our compilation includes the track reflecting the band's newest history. http://purplefog.darkside.ru/ SPINEFISH
This is a one-man-project of Yury Pravikov, a young musician from Orel. His sister Elena with her project Sandcastle participated in the first volume of Colours of Black. But inspite of the kinship both projects are very different. Spinefish has its own individual character. Abundance of ideas makes the music very heterogeneous. Spinefish has already released one LP album, a mini-CD and a two-track single. Generally speaking, the style can't be defined exactly but it's to some extent or other about trip-hop, darkwave and ambient. Yury's desire to bring something new into gothic stylistics makes the music very original and innovative. The track included in our compilation is taken from the mini-CD "Fool's Paradise". It allows the listener to learn one of the sides of the versatile Spinefish.
http://spinefish.nm.ru STILLIFE
Stillife is one of the leading Russian darkwave bands. It was founded in Rostov eight years ago. Stillife is famous for its successful live performances. The band released four full-length albums, one of which is a sort of an international collaborative project in which independent musicians from Germany (Endraum, In My Rosary), England (Mark Thornton) and the USA (Butterfly Messiah) took part. Stillife's albums and tracks several times hit top 10 of Russian and foreign radio-charts. Not once was it acknowledged as the best Russian gothic band. Every of its new album proves it. The second volume of Colours of Black includes the exclusive track recorded specially for our compilation.
http://www.stillife.ru/ [Ò. 3. R.]
This band from Moscow appeared in 2002. At first it had the name "Dances of the Third Reich" and played harsh EBM. The band changed its name into [T.3.R.] after faults found with its lyrics about the Third World War and the band's previous name itself. But before that the band found lots of admirers thanks to many bright, energetic and expressive concerts at which they could freak out the most skeptic visitor.
The band has recorded four full length self-released albums. Currently [T.3.R.] is working at a new single that will consist of remixes of Russian, Ukrainian and Swedish bands. Our compilation includes the track that shows the band at best. http://www.t3r.ru/ TALISMAN TALES
The band was founded in St. Petersburg in 2002. Originally its music was about electronics with live guitars additions. Gradually Talisman Tales made their sound more live. The current line-up was formed. In 2004 their music could be defined as romantic gothic rock.
During the first five months after the first concert the band performed live almost at all gothic parties in St. Petersburg's clubs. In 2005 Talisman Tales was back in the studio working at the new material. As a result "Sacred Moment" came out. More electronics were added, guitars became more thick and at the same time were placed in the background giving way to keyboards; all lyrics were written in Russian. The track included in our compilation is taken exactly from this release. Currently the band is working at its first album giving regular concerts in various clubs. http://www.talisman.nm.ru/ TEARS OF JANNET
As many other provincial projects Tears Of Janet from Penza is almost unknown to the Russian dark scene audience, to say nothing of the foreign one. But nevertheless the band has recorded many interesting materials.
The early records were to a greater extent neoclassic. Gradually the band changed its sound to guitar indie and gothic rock, moving more and more to gothic rock under a considerable influence of shoegazers. Once at the background together with alto and cello, the aerial and shadowy guitar now has come to the foreground contrasting with the clear-cut bass-line and percussions. As a result the self-released album "Obrechyonnost" ("Fatality") came out in 2005. The album bears illusive resemblance with the previous releases "4AD" and "Beggars Banquet" as the sound has changed considerably. The track included in our compilation is taken from this very album. We hope that it will give you the idea of what TOJ's music is about. Contact: TEATR YADA & THEODOR BASTARD
Teatr Yada (Theatre Of Poison) is one of the most extraordinary Moscow projects on the Russian gothic industrial scene: their creative works have no frameworks; they are specific and inexcusably elitist. Even in Moscow the band is known only by heresay to say nothing of distant places of Russia, their records pass from hands to hands. Their extensive energy and charisma shocks the audience at concerts that are very rare. Because of sophisticated Russian lyrics the foreign listener can hardly appreciate all the greatness, courtliness, deepness and frightful figurativeness of the band.
Theodor Bastard from St. Petersburg that participated in the first volume of Colours of Black is more popular among the audience including the foreign one. Their much-talked-of album "Pustota" was released at the label Pandaimonium, the clip with the same title was included in the DVD-compilation of the magazine Orkus. The band participated in many other compilations, gave lots of successful concerts in Russia and abroad. The track included in our compilation is the result of the collaborative work of these two remarkable and different projects. http://www.theodorbarstard.ru/ ÒHE-PULSAR
The-Pulsar appeared in St. Petersburg in 1996. They played popular body music moving slowly and gingerly to their own style. At last the band found what they were looking for. The debut album was recorded on which The-Pulsar showed its musical potential. The lyrics of the band were unusual, dark and romantic. The band played several successful concerts and got a positive reference in industrial and gothic circles. It became even more popular after participation in "Russian Existence", a tribute to project pitchfork. Live performances at the same stage with Haujobb and Colony5 made it one of the most successful EBM bands.
Their latest album "Awakening" came out at Advoxia records. Our compilation include the remix on one of the tracks from this album. Currently the band is working at the album of remixes called "RE-awakening" that will come out in April-May 2006. http://www.the-pulsar.com/ ÒUNNEL
This is rather a mature band from Pechora that still can be called a debutant one, as their records are almost unavailable to a wide audience; those who heard them could be called lucky. Tunnel combines Russian folklore with modern spirit of the depth of the country that are framed within different musical styles such as indie-pop, break beat, trance and rather harsh dance industrial. In contrast to other bands working in this direction Tunnel make its music alive, natural, sincere and touchy. Possibly this is a new sort of folklore that will be considered by descendants in several years. Our compilation includes the track from the self-released album "Afisha Tayozhnoy Grusti" 2002 (A Placard of Taiga Sadness).
Contact: VISHUDHA KALI
This project from St. Petersburg has become quite popular now. It recorded its first album in 2002. The style varies from deep ritual ambient to ecstatic power electronics, but still all releases, apart from the unique design and small numbers of copies typical of VK, have a clear conception, peculiar atmosphere and great energetics that can be apprehended not by everyone. Moreover, unusual instruments, the sound and rhythm makes the music even more difficult to understand for the regular listener with the limited notion of beauty and harmony. Another typical feature of VK is the voice as one of the main musical instruments. Sometimes it's not processed at all, sometimes it's transformed into something unrecognizable. The track included in our compilation was recorded live during one of the band's performances.
http://uzm.spb.ru/andyaum/vishudha_kali.htm WAVEFALL
This duo appeared in Moscow in 1999. It was called many times a sensation of Moscow underground electronic scene. Wavefall started with Trance and IDM. In course of time the band turned to techno-industrial. The first album was recorded in 2003 but didn't received enough feedback and the band begin working instantly at the second album on which the sound became more harsh and dynamic. Several live performances made the audience pay attention to this band.
The new material of Wavefall is an urgent mixture of techno-body and ebm. It will come out at the leading Russian dark electronic label Advoxia. The band's music is devoted to the dark sides of human psychology where the bounds between schizophrenic fears and reality are erased and the future is portrayed in limpid sound landscapes. http://wavefall-music.com/ ARTISTS: COLOURS OF BLACK volume 1ANTISISTERS
Anti Sisters = Brothers! - that`s how the musicians of the project explain the band`s name. This electronic dark wave project from the capital of Russia attracts the attention not only by the witty name, but also by high quality of material. Their first self-release, the album "Spiders Kisses Lies", has literally drilled a place on radio and European dance-floors. The 50 % of the CD became the real club hits both in Russia and in Europe. Plus excellent reviews in Zillo and in other well known media. Nevertheless they still remain a mystery not only for the fans, but also for themselves. They just couldn`t realize how they manage to do all this so superb. ANTISISTERS practically do not play gigs but work with a very hard material. And probably there is a secret of their success. The soft, insinuating, synthetic sound of the band with fascinating man's vocal is capable to capture you from the very first seconds. Two years after from the last release hitmakers prepare new surprises. Definitely it will be the new "bomb"! When you listen to their music you realize that there is just a few bands like this and it`s great. superb!
http://www.antisisters.com ÀNTHESTERIA
This one-man project from Saint-Petersburg made a fuss among top Russian
dark scene web-zine reviewers - despite self-releasing only 50 copies. Their
gothic ambient, from the most mysterious Russian city, whose atmosphere gave
the world numerous talents of all styles and sizes, is mysterious and
diverse. Some of the world's dark scene VIPs, e.g. RAISON D'ETRE's Peter
Anderson have already claimed to be among Anthesteria's fans. It only
remains to concur with one of the journalists that the project's music
sounds like a requem to dying beauty and quiet prayers over the tombstone of
classical art. Colours Of Black compilation is the project's first step
towards a mass audience.
http://anthesteria.stillclouds.com BLESS
BLESS is a young Moscow act, which originally was the solo project of the Klimenti Kurdyumov who is the keyboardist of the famous dark-wave band NECRO STELLAR. "It is the music of disturbing absurdity and gentle viscous long sadness", - in that way the author defines his own work. The certain style is not present, but from the most suitable terms academic minimalism is the closest one.
The matter of a sound, which doesn`t satisfy itself, rushes between smooth legato and crazy arpegio, walking under harmonous 4\4 or jumping under cheerful 6\8, beats in a cell of lace of gentle feelings and philosophical ideas. The music is existential and unpredictable like a thin line between immanence of life and transcendence of death. And do not wait for more.
Nevertheless there are all bases to expect from BLESS much more. Even the first band's record show high creative potential, which proves the interest of the leading European ethereal\neo-classic label PRIKOSNOVENIE. The new musicians have appeared in line-up recently, the band is planning its active concert activity.
BLOOD & SAND
The participants of the project met each other being students of the Saratov State University. Combining by the common views and musical tastes, they began to create the first compositions. The desire to transfer bright emotional adjust forced them to make experiments in a different ways - so the elements of various styles and directions from electronic music up to pseudo-folk and the post-punk were used. At the beginning of 2000 the sound got the more acoustic character, and in couple of years the BLOOD & SAND formed what it is for today. After the first demo - material was published, creativity of the band has been categorically ranked to the dark-folk.
In spite of the fact that till now musicians can not find those gloomy and melancholic moods with which so assiduously Russian gothic bands paint their creations, BLOOD & SAND successfully works and prepares a debut album for release. CANONIS
This band, residing in Naberezhnye Chelny, began their career by playing
doom metal. In 1994 they recorded their first demo, Virtual Reality,
followed by another demo, Princess Of Rain, which shifted the group behind
the boundaries of orthodox doom. In 1997 Canonis recorded their two-song
demo, the Aquarell, which marked the band's move into ethereal. Since then
the project has periodically taken part in the Russian dark scene events,
appearing on Edge Of the Night - Russian Gothic Compilation and Castle Party
2001 in Bolkow, Poland. According to the musicians, at the moment Canonis
are recording their first full CD, which includes the track they have
submitted for the compilation, Cold Sea.
http://canonis.com CAPRICE
This neoclassical / ethereal band from Moscow can be described as one of the most sophisticated, unique and professional outfits in the Russian near-gothic scene. In 1996 they recorded their first album, Mirror, and two years later, in November 1998, took to performing live in Moscow's clubs and concert halls. The band is the brainchild of composer and keyboardist Anton Brejestovski, its hallmark being his wife, Inna Brejestovskaya's voice, probably the most prominent on the Russian dark scene. In April 1999 the Japanese director Shushei Nishi filmed The Flower of Harmony, a documentary about Caprice, the band subsequently recording Songs Of Innocence and Experience, based on William Blake's poetry. Caprice's major work remains their Elven-trilogy, two first parts of which, Elvenmusic (2001) and The Evening of Iluvatar's Children (2003), have so far been made available on the French label Prikosnovenie. The trilogy is an attempt to show what the music of the parallel world of faerie sounds like - the world, which for centuries has attracted humans with its beauty and youth, leaving the listener both joyous and yearning. The track To My Sister, provided for this compilation is taken from the band's brand-new album, Sister Simplicity.
http://www.caprice-music.com CHILDREN OF THE GUN
This band keeps on moving in a rut of the 80-s. Drum-machine and bass, a dense guitar sound, and certainly traditional brit-goth vocal, everything what is common to this type of music is here... And, certainly, a bit of originality. They are not outsiders at all, and in due time they got lots of laudatory reviews. And it is no wonder because Russian gothic rock bands stay in minority. But, under mysterious circumstances, the musicians prefer to remain in shadow. Children of the Gun do not indulge the audience missed the real drive with gigs and new releases. Staying in the underground they are still one of the best gothic rock band. The one of the concert record from Moscow gig is submitted on the compilation.
http://childrenofthegun.nm.ru CRUCI-FICTION
It is a very simple history of the band. Guys played in different bands and as a result have decided to apply their skills in the new project. So the nucleus of the band appeared in 2002. The forming of the band was affected with the common musical sights and ideas, and the direction was chosen aside gothic rock. They started creating material, in parallel there is a long search for line-up. At the same time the band was named "CRUCI-FICTION". To the middle of October musicians defined the concept of band and they started the creation of the new material. In some months CRUCI-FICTION recorded a demo under the name "Dirty" Blues ", consisting of six tracks. At present the band continues their work with the material of the first album.
http://cruci-fiction.ru CYCLOTIMIA
This Moscow duet is one of the most conceptual and closed for public and journalists band in the dark-scene, besides it is one of the most successful groups among Russian scene representatives abroad. The band plays gloomy electronic music in a range from dark ambient up to experimental industrial and darkwave. The first live performance of the band took place on "Edge of the Night" Halloween Party organized by Russian Gothic Project in 1998. Since then the band has not played live frequently, preferring studio work to performances.
For a long time Cyclotimia released on the German label StateArt. The track given for compilation is taken from enough rare vinyl edition "Same Time Same Place" which was released in 2002 on Blade records. http://www.cyclotimia.com DOPPELGANGER
From the moment of the foundation (it was in 1995) this band had to change a few line-ups. Having released one album, the band disappeared for the whole 4 years and made people forget about them. 2001 was marked by returning of the DOPPELGANGER.
The band released promo with the new line-up and a new vocalist and received good reviews in press. By 2003 the band changed it’s line-up again and finally stopped on a gothic rock sound. The musicians characterize their style as goth'n'roll and offers their fans a melodic and rigid gothic rock.
Recently released album "...desire lost forever? " has been sold successfully and numerous band’s performances allow to characterize DOPPELGANGER as , perhaps, the most active and professional Moscow gothic rock project.
http://www.doppelganger.ru DROLLS
The band DROLLS, located in Petrozavodsk, was founded in October 1999.
The basic area of activity of this group, that is asking for the comparison with strolling musicians and actors troupes of the Europe Rising times, is the Western European music of Middle Ages and Renaissance. Musicians of DROLLS successfully combine professional school of playing different instruments and ensemble play with the spirit of historical music tied to theater and interactive principles. Today DROLLS is likely to be the most visible and ponderable Russian band playing authentic medieval music. There are 4 full-format albums, numerous concerts in Russia and abroad, TV and radio casts on the credit side of DROLLS. They aspire to turn each concert into the bright performance with usage of authentic tools of pantomime, dancing and even fencing.
http://www.drolls.onego.ru DVAR
This mysterious and pretentious dark-wave project became widely known after the participation in the "Edge Of The Night" release. The press has christened DVAR as "Russian SOPOR AETERNUS" practically at once and there is a part of common sense in this comparison. The music of the project is extremely painful, emotional, suggestive and, truly to say, is unusual for the unprepared person.
Practically, there is not any information about the project’s participants, where they live and who they are Everything that is concerned with DVAR is meaningly hidden by a certain coverlet of mysteriousness. Nevertheless the aura of the occult germetics has not prevented DVAR to become one of the most successful Russian gothic projects abroad. The debut DVAR’s album was released in the Italian label, Radio Luxor, the tracks of the project are present on numerous western compilations with many famous stars of this genre. The last two albums have been released in Russia by the label Irond Records and have received the best reviews in leading western editions. For "Colours Of Black" DVAR has given the exclusive track which was created on the basis of one of the first tracks of the project. http://dark.gothic.ru/dvar/ EMBRACE OF BRANCHES
As Alexei Sheptunov neatly mentioned, EMBRACE OF BRANCHES should be called no other way than “ensemble of Moscow metaphysicians”. Art niche taken by this band on the Russian scene is an acoustic music, that is pretended to be defined with minor reservations by two terms at the same time: “intellectual dark-folk” and “emotional neo-folk”. Some works balance at the interfaces between strict apocalyptic and free-jazz esthetics, some leave the impression of the theatre play, another send you simultaneously to mystical opuses IN GOWAN RING É NATURE & ORGANISATION. Activity of the EB participants is not limited only to music; it spreads also to scene plastic arts, pantomime and dancing.
http://embrace.woods.ru EMILY A. SAAEN
Similar to the most "Colours Of Black" participants, Emily presents her solo work at the Russian gothic compilation for the first time. Though, it does not tell about lack of experience or surprisingly ripe composer’s gift. She counted her professional work standing since 1993, when she began to work as vocalist and keyboardist in one of Moscow bands. For several years Emily has succeeded to work – constantly and sessionally – with many projects of different styles, from doom/death/black-metal to dark-folk, Celtic and trance/house (for instance, SAINTS EVERLASTING REST, DEMENTOR, MENTAL HOME, SORAT, STIGMATIC CHORUS, NEVESY, MOON FAR AWAY and so on), getting the experience and polishing her skills. Simultaneously with participation in numerous gigs and studio works, for the last five years she has been working under own material, seasoned to ethereal/neoclassic/folk style. This is just the style, which formerly became well known inside gothic sub-culture as "heavenly voices". Now she has the almost prepared materials for debut solo album consistent of 3 (!) CDs, which is planned to be finished and brought together by October 2004.
http://www.emilysaaen.ru HALLUCINATIONS FOR TWO
HALLUCINATIONS FOR TWO is another new gifted formation from Moscow. Like many new bands this one has very short history related to the change of line-up, experiments with sound and never-ending circle of self-perfection, that is inherent to all creative personalities. Actually HALLUCINATIONS FOR TWO is the completed actor of the domestic dark-scene, possessing originality and charm. The band is looking into the future with confidence, and it is quite righteous if listening to their music. H42, whose art is very peculiar, suggests the audience modern synth gothic/electro crossover with elements of guitar metal sound and air female vocal. In November 2003 hallucinations for two recorded their first demo, and one track from it is represented at the compilation. The band keeps up working under the first long-play album and show preparations.
http://h42.nm.ru IZIDA
The new side-project of two musicians from Koenigsberg band, ROMOWE RIKOITO, is very distinguished by sound from the epic dark-folk of the basic line-up. However there is a certain similarity between them, the atmosphere of city - myth, Koenigsberg, unites them first of all. Almost dancing dark-electro is adjoined with ritual break-beat of a new formation and, despite of the seeming lightness, all together they make extremely mystical sound stream from which one by one come up new and new waves. IZIDA’s music masterfully combines with the traditional concept which is expressed in magnificent melodic lines, and the innovation of the sound approach.
KRATONG
KRATONG is the one-man project of Jhonny, who is the main composer of the Koenigsberg band, ROMOWE RIKOITO. Started from dark-folk, which was even more interesting played by KRATONG than by the basic line-up, today this project promotes modern high-tech version of out-of-the-way occult dark-wave, incredibly atmospheric and inventive. Though, the debut album of the project will include experiments of all genres that KRATONG succeeded to appear itself in– the project’s path to the wide audience has just begun.
http://kratong.woods.ru LACKLUSTRE MIRROR
This Moscow project appeared as a one-man-project by keyboardist b. The record of the debut album took 2 years from 1999 till 2000 . And the new material was immediately highly appreciated by the corresponding audience . The accumulation of material for the second album, "The Book Of The Shattered Bounds", (from which track for the compilation is submitted) took almost four years. It was released only on the eve of the New Year's holidays of 2004. To this very moment the one-man-project has turned into a band. At the moment the line-up is b - vocals/keys/programming, @Ir - vocals/bass/guitars and Ernimel - vocals. In LACKLUSTRE MIRROR’s music elements of simphonism, art-rock, ethereal, darkwave, dark-rock, neo-classic and ambient are quite harmoniously combined.
Musicians compare their own work with dim reflection about the world around, deformed echo of the past and something ever heard. Not without reason, on their official site the information of the band is anticipated by the description of a of a filming process through muslin tissue, used in the beginning of the twentieth century...
http://lacklustre.ath.cx LANGUOR
LANGUOR is a new joint project of participants of the Moscow band NEUTRAL (Iliya Lipkin, Veronika Martynova) and EMBRACE OF BRANCHES (Peter Sviridov, Michael Bode). The collective’s music lies at the intersection of the traditions of dark-folk and art-folk. The members of LANGUOR define the material they perform as strange-folk. As for the lyrics, it appeals both to the vanguard literature of the beginning of the last century and to the modern psychedelic poetry. The track "The Purpose Wells" represented for the compilation is one of the first recordings of the new project, and it in full measure shows the band’s potential at the Russian dark-folk scene.
http://languor.woods.ru MAJDANEK WALTZ
The mix of "satanic punk-agro-industrial with elements of drum-n-bus" or more likely "technoid punk with elements of post-industrial" - such definition was given by some musical snob to the first demo-single of the Ryazan band MAJDANEK WALTZ, released at the very beginning of 2002. Creative flywheel of this underground weird- project at that time (though, just like today) was moved by two friends - MRZ and Mattsah. Shortly after the release of single Mattsah started the 2 years journey to the Promised Land, looking for the new occult afflatus. However, sound experiments of another project fellow MRZ after less than one year were expressed in the new album of MW "Winter Tale", based on poetry of Boris Poplavsky. Unfortunately, this album also didn’t go outside the Internet underground. In the summer of 2003 influenced by the WSD musicians, participants of MAJDANEK WALTZ got down to recording the new dark-folk album "For all time", filled up with moods of despair. The viola-player Maxim NS (Aka Ochkilla) has contributed to the process, and in the future he is going to become the third constant member of MW. The heading track from the third album is included into the compilation "Colours of black". The name of this track is symbolic - "Love as a whip". Heaven, life, spirit, transformation, proto-history all this is MAJDANEK WALTZ.
http://majdanekwaltz.woods.ru/ MOON FAR AWAY
The first legend of the Russian gothic, its first word, which was uttered in a whisper, almost unrecognizable among the murmurs of northern brooks. A seemingly cold drama on the verge of majestic darkwave and ritual folk, chaos and order, noise and fury. Having grasped once and for all the attention of the local and later foreign audience, the philosophers from Arkhangelsk and underground conquistadors caused a genuine interest towards the entire Russian gothic scene. The group's CDs have been given an honorary place in the collections of many European gothic connoisseurs. The group is admired both in Russia and abroad, and is rightfully considered to be of the same value as other superstars. Recently the Japanese director Shushi Nishi filmed "Ritual of White Night", a documentary, where MOON FAR AWAY's socio-cultural phenomenon has been given a thorough analysis. Initially considering themselves a purely studio and hermetic project, MOON FAR AWAY musicians showed themselves brilliant actors and truly amazed the audience with their performance skills. After two notable releases, Lado World and Sator, which became the Russian darkwave classics in just months, the musicians never stopped creating, and are presently recording a new album.
http://dark.gothic.ru/mfa NECRO STELLAR
Necro Stellar is the incarnation of the Moscow project Dyhanye
The Musicians of this dark-electro act can be named the veterans of the Russian dark scene. The new project proved to be a master of gigs filled with extraordinary energy. Their bewitching unnatural creativity is extremely introspective. It carries a shade of mysticism and occult knowledge. Necro Stellar is one of the few artists who is able not only to create an atmosphere, but also to involve the listener into it. The one of the last tracks, Mange Morts, from the Dlo Kwala Manyan album is submitted on the compilation.
http://www.necrostellar.com NEUTRAL
The Moscow band NEUTRAL, celebrating in May, 2004 the decade, enters alongside with MOON FAR AWAY and ROMOWE RIKOITO in "the supreme league" of the Russian dark scene. Their creative life has been developed from industrial-metal, darkwave and gothic. Conducted by the permanent leader and vocalist Ash, the band is considered to be one of dark-folk pathbreakers in Russia. NEUTRAL was the first who played such live music in 1998. NEUTRAL has steady reputation of the concert band.
For today there is no official studio work (not including numerous demo and self-releases). The one official CD is the record of live concert in Koenigsberg in 2000 which released on Brudenia label. However, the concert activity makes the band popular in Russia as well as in Europe. The band played together with DER BLUTHARSH and the solo concert in Temple de Boudry in Switzerland in July 2003 was the triumphal one. Despite the developed credo of a "live band", in the near future the release of a studio album " of Shadow and its Dream" is expected on French label Cynfeirdd. Recently the band was left by the guitarist I.Lipkin who practically during the whole period of the band existence was Ash co-author regarding a musical material. Therefore, NEUTRAL is one-man band now. However, by Ash’s words, new musicians will appear in the near future in the band. Ash represents new track "Festival" on the compilation which is based on the H.P.Lovecraft verses. Ash acted both as the author and as the performer of all musical parties. http://neutral.woods.ru PARA BELLVM
Petersburg’s band PARA BELLUM is probably the most successful, artistic and professional example of a combination of traditional gothic\dark-rock sound with the Russian lyrics based on the early Christian symbolism. The band was formed in 1995 by vocalist Leonid Novikov, and during the existence recommended itself as the most active and interesting project of Petersburg. The band took part in different festivals like the traditional Petersburg gothic-rock-festival "Radio Inferno" organized by Leonid Fomin and SKIF. The band played with many stars of the dark scene - among them, for example, TO/DIE/FOR, - and it also released two CDs. At the end of 2001 ò÷ was recognized as the most interesting Saint Petersburg’s band according to the interrogation of musical site spbclub.ru.
For "Colours Of Black" the band gave one of the compositions from recently released album with the same name. http://www.parabellum.spb.ru REQUIEM FOR FM
This Moscow’s project have just started its own history, the band was formed in 2003, and we really hope, that their biography will be long and bright. The band’s first demo has already received good marks in national musical press and we can only imagine what will be further. Requiem for FM is one of the groups which adheres to progressive views to the development of such an orthodox direction as gothic rock. The band introduces the new sound that started from late 90-s. For this reason music of this band is extraordinary eclectic. The band manages to combine features of the traditional gothic rock with the number of diversified adjoining genres - from industrial samples that is habitual for å÷í up to a gentle vocal that is peculiar for synth-pop. The new band continues to develop, expanding line-up and paying attention of concert activity.
http://www.requiem-for-fm.ru ROMOWE RIKOITO
After the appearance in 1997 the debut album "Narcissism", the group ROMOWE RIKOITO got a firm status of Russian dark folk leader. In fact, all the attempts to compare the music of this project with the recognized works of this genre showed rather soon its groundlessness - ROMOWE RIKOITO`s dark folk has its own unique face, its own aroma, its own inner time, which is closely connected with the myths of musicians` native city - Koenigsberg and with European symbolism. Nowadays, RR is the musical phenomenon of the world level, one of the most and justly well-known in the West groups of Russian dark scene, the group’s tracks are presented in different west compilations together with the new and recognized authorities of the world dark & neo–folk, though sometimes being prominent among them due to its own originality and immutable sense of taste. The track which was presented in "Colours Of Black" - the first news of ROMOWE RIKOITO` new album, which will soon break the pause which seems to be rather prolonged and distressing for the fans after the appearance of their wonderful second disc "L`Automne Eternel".
http://romowe.woods.ru SANDCASTLE
The original idea came up as early as 1999. Initially Elena Pravikova's
one-woman project was called GOTHIC LETHARGY and resulted in a tape album
"Breathless And Abandoned", which gained certain feedback from the Russian
gothic underground. "Later the name had to be changed - because I didn't
want to write a next installment of the scary tale I'd begun as a child: On the contrary, I wanted to write the tale anew. Nevertheless, the link
between GOTHIC LETHARGY and SANDCASTLE is obvious", says Elena. In 2002 she
moved from her native city of Oryol to Sweden, which boosted her new
project, SANDCASTLE, reflecting the ideas Elena has accumulated for the past
five years. Although Elena is still in touch with the Russian gothic scene,
she confesses that she has procured a lot of help and support from GODGORY,
LOSS and MENTAL CRYPT, as well as Dan SwanÏ, whose friendship and attention
stimulated a lot the recording of SANDCASTLE. The composer confesses that
the main influences on her have been LYCIA and especially Mike Van
Portfleet, to whom SANDCASTLE's first full CD is dedicated.
STILLIFE
The history of the Rostov band originates in 1998. During the last two years Russian fans could observe rash rise and the formation of a new domestic darkwave-legend. In 2001 STILLIFE played together with cult German dark-wave-band ENDRAUM.
The debut album "Raining December", which was released on the Irond Records, in that year, shook the audience of a dark-scene by opening the variety of human emotions from love up to tragedy. Besides the band’s disk occupied “an album of month” position on the "Resistance! Radio" in Germany.
Next year the band played together with one more cult German band, DIARY OF DREAMS, at the annual Russian gothic-festival "Edge of the Night". 2002 was marked by the new band’s release "Only Silence". According to the interrogations of the leading Russian gothic-site Russian Gothic Page, STILLIFE became the best national band of the year. In 2003 the band released the next album "Remembrance" and the group itself again became the best band of the year on results of interrogation of a national Gothic portal.
http://www.stillife.ru THEODOR BASTARD
This formation is from St. Petersburg with a rather strange name, can really be considered one of the best projects of the national gothic scene. Since 1996 the group have managed to release 5 albums and this is not the limit. Their concerts turned into the mystical drama which takes place in the scene, and which combines in itself - the crystal frequency, pain and phantasmagoria. Their music has something familiar to a Russian person, something that can not be explained or understood but something that will not leave aside. This group`s music combines the ethnic variety, the depth of gothic and intangibility, softness of modern electronics. Yana Veva’s crystal-clear vocalization makes for a moment people forget about the world around. There is no need to say a lot about them, they should be seen and heard. The disc "Dusk" also contains the video clip of the artist Kol Belov, performed to the track "Pustota" (Emptiness in English).
http://www.theodorbastard.ru THE UNHOLY GUESTS
The young Moscow act THE UNHOLY GUESTS, which was organized in August, 2002 by the guitarist Aleksey "Fiend", is considered to be one of the few bands of Russian dark scene, performing "orthodox", classical gothic rock. The band`s creative work includes the rational portion of rock`n`roll drive which is accompanied by non-aggressive, thoughtful, sometimes melancholic guitar parts together with the dense sound of the keys, which produce gloomy and mysterious atmosphere and all this flavoured with introvert distant texts in English which are penetrated with the feeling of doom and everlasting comprehensive melancholy. The important detail is that the band’s track found itself in foreign dancefloors and got good reviews. Add here the bright image of the band’s members - and you will get a formula of the classical, of high quality gothic-rock-band, a la THE SISTERS OF MERCY, THE MISSION or FIELDS OF THE NEPHILIM.
http://www.the-unholy-guests.com VIDNA NEBO
The trio was formed in 1997 in Saint Petersburg. Though musicians characterize their music as dark wave / ethereal, the band does not limit its creative work with any stylistics, constantly experiments with various directions, binding dark ambient, noise, trip-hop, ethno, gothic, dark wave, ethereal. And their musical experiments are not only the studio works. The band actively plays gigs, participates in various festivals and actions of gothic and as well as industrial-scene. And, due to a wide musical spectrum, they are accepted hospitably by adherents of completely different musical directions. In addition to it during the period of the existence Vidna Nebo proved to be a good remixer- they made remixes not only for domestic musicians but also for the western ones.
http://www.vidnanebo.narod.ru VISHUDHA KALI
The first album of Petersburg`s project VISHUDHA KALI "Prem Genocide" appeared in 2002 and at once it attracted attention of the audience that had a rather radical mood in a combination with ritual motet and savage power-electronics, which was recorded, which is the most surprising, only with the help of a voice. The last, indeed, in the performance of VK sounds in the compass from infernal whisper to electronics. Nowadays, VISHUDHA KALI is the same triumph of high technologies, which in the strangest way converts acoustical and analogous sounds into some new queer sound forms, multiplied to the depth of ritual ambient and IE tradition. Some remarkable spiritual attempts are necessary for adequate perception of all this - in other way you will be frightened. At the present time, Andrew Bulin, who is standing after the name VK, is actively engaged in the cooperation with different musicians of the Russian and world dark-scene, where you can also find, for example, BAD SECTOR É MOON FAR AWAY, and he also occupies himself in the work of his own label Fight Music. The project VISHUDHA KALI in the "Colours Of Black" is presented with the exclusive track "Bury me".

To be himself among strangers and to be a stranger among familiar people
Today, this guy from Kursk is one of the most known personalities at the foreign electronic dark scene, and he is one of the most claimed remixers. In spite of the fact, that behind him there is a great number of team-work with pi performers of the modern dark electronics, his works can be seen consisting in other releases and compilations, his own release is produced on the famous label Different Drum, he is still less known in his Motherland than he could be. And in this case, many people can be surprised by the fact and ask themselves a question - why is there the track with Stefan Netschio’s participation in the collection of Russian dark scene and why did Ronny Moorings from Clan of Xymox remix this track. To find the explanation is rather simple - VIRTUAL SERVER is the project which ideological and creative beginning is our compatriot DJ Ram who draws his friends and colleagues from different countries and different musical formations to work for his own creative work. This cannot spoil the music. Specially for this compilation, there was presented the unreleased version of the composition "Wide Awake".

This is the name of the famous Moscow`s photographer, journalist, ideologist of Russian neo-folk-movement and the creator of the national subject internet-portal SEIDR.WOODS.RU. WOLFSBLOOD presented the track "Cranes", which was written after the last memorable stay in the ancient sanctuary Romowe in Eastern Prussia in autumn of 2003 - whose native inhabitants considered that the souls of the dead people went to their ancestors along the crane’s path. This composition will be presented in WOLFSBLOOD`s debut album, where famous Russian neo-folk musicians helped him.
